Primary Duties
  • The Clerk is officially responsible for the County seal and the retention of official records including minutes, ordinance books, records of County-appointed boards and committees, resolutions, contracts, agreements, and leases, etc., in accordance with the North Carolina General Statutes; prepares official copies of documents including ordinances, resolutions and meeting minutes as adopted by the Board; administers oaths; and certifies legal documents on behalf of the County.
  • The Clerk is responsible for legal advertisements and must be familiar with the General Statutes that deal with advertisements in order to assure the validity of actions taken by the Board of Commissioners.
  • The County Clerk prepares and distributes the agenda for each Board meeting. The Clerk is also responsible for creating and publishing the Board of County Commissioners Meeting Schedule for all Board meetings.
  • The Clerk's Office maintains and updates appointments to Durham County authorities, boards, commissions, and committees and facilitates the participation of elected and volunteer board/commission members.
  • The Clerk’s Office is open to the public on normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) five days a week. The office is located in the Durham County Government Administrative Complex, 200 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701, on the 2nd floor. All persons may request and receive information from the office.
